
EVERY Sunday morning, they gather along Changi Coast Road, all decked in their colourful attire and with their sleek bicycles.
While most of us are content on sleeping in on a weekend, these children are always up and about at dawn, running and cycling as aeroplanes take off periodically nearby at the Changi Airport runway.
Children between the ages of seven and 16 train four times a week under the watchful eyes of Jerry Seah, a three-time Ironman, in a specifically tailored programme by Strongman Sports Limited, a training partner for the Triathlon Association of SIngapore (TAS).
They undergo two hours of swimming every Tuesday and Thursday evenings, while Friday evenings are devoted to running at the Bishan Stadium.
The class of 10 to 20 triathletes are accompanied by their parents as they head down to Changi every Sunday morning for two hours of bike and running workouts.
They also reflect the growing popularity of triathlons and biathlons in Singapore...."

We need more of that in the USA. I can see it now ... "soccer moms" could soon be replaced by "triathlete moms" that drive their cars with 4 bikes strapped onto the roof.
